Physical Protection from the
impending
outbreak is
the strategy we have accepted. We realize that most likely there will
be no vaccine or anti-viral defense to H5N1 until six to eight months
after the virus emerges in a human to human contagious form and spreads
worldwide. Although there is no 100 percent perfect equipment to
protect oneself from infection outside of being sealed in a clean room
there is excellent equipment that has been proven to prevent infection
for many years in some very adverse conditions such as primate labs and
nuclear power plants. Still if proper procedure is not followed or
errors made infection would still be possible.
The CDC and the WHO recommend
N95 grade
disposable
masks or better for protection we believe this is deficient in that a
N95 mask would allow 5 percent of particles 0.3 microns to enter the
mask and H5N1 is approximately 0.1 micron (100 nm) in size and it only
take 1 germ to infect a person.
3M has the best and most cost
effective
equipment
we have discovered though our research. Yes if one was prepared to
spend thousands on supplied air systems they could offer better
protection but this is not practical for the average family so we have
put together kits and a strategy which though not perfect we believe is
the most practical for this problem.
Once again we all pray that
no one will ever
need
to use these kits but they offer the best solution for H5N1 or other
flu strains and protection against a biological, nuclear or dirty bomb
attack.
There are at least three scenarios that need to
be guarded
against.
1. The protection of your family and their
environment.
2. The protection of the family member who must go outside of the
family environment.
3. Caring for a family member who may be infected.
